Welcome to Cover Collection, my mostly weekly blog series in which I talk about book covers I love and why I love them. This week, we're looking at the cover of LOLA SHAPES THE SKY, written by Wendy Greenley, illustrated by Paolo Domeniconi and designed by Rita Marshall. Have a look at this beauteousness!

I love the painterly sensibility of this cover. I often think, when I look at the sky, that the clouds look like a renaissance painting, and this cover reminds me of that. It makes me want to go out and gaze at the clouds!
I also love the color palette: all summer blues and golds. It makes me think of lazy summer days, which are also great for cloud gazing! I think I know what I'm going to do this afternoon...
One interesting thing about this cover is that there's some ambiguity about who Lola is. At first, I thought she was the girl pictured on the cover.The clue is in the font, which is SUPER cool. Notice how the "o" in Lola has a swan's head in it? And where else do we see a swan? This is a neat way to add interest to the cover, while also giving an indication of who the story is about.
